What is a Link Wheel?

Some people are born with a certain intuitive familiarity with affiliate marketing terms. The rest of us are doomed to Google for at least an hour every time we want to learn a new word. A link wheel is no exception.

Loosely defined as an interlinking group of web 2.0 properties, a link wheel is mostly a way to promote your star content in search engines and on social media sites. The thought is that if you have hundreds of properties with various authority and reputation power linking to each other through optimized anchor text and based off relevance, then your search engine ranking will be boosted and you won't need to worry about begging people for reciprocal links or writing dozens of press releases in the hopes that a major blog picks up your site.

I use link wheels from time to time, but for the most part I spend a lot of effort on writing content that is deserving of being linked to. That said, you have to start somewhere, and a link wheel is an excellent way of launching a site with a decent level of traffic (minding, of course, competition and search volume for those key words).

If you're inspired to try it, you can read my detailed guide on developing link wheels.
